Halo™ Prep, Recovery & Safety

Preparation

Before the procedure, Dr. Sheila Nazarian, a leading board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, will review your medical history, conduct a physical and discuss appropriate treatment expectations.

Day of the procedure

The Halo™ laser treatment usually takes about 1 hour to complete. The first half hour is spent applying the topical anesthetic cream and allowing it to take effect. The treatment itself takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the skin’s condition to be treated. A skin moisturizer will be applied to the treated areas to keep it moist.

Recovery

Swelling and redness is expected after treatment. Your skin may also feel warm for about 12-24 hours post-Halo™ treatment. We recommend applying cold compresses to keep your skin cool and help reduce swelling. Significant results can be expected from a single Halo™ treatment. However, sometimes, a second treatment may be needed. Acne scarring does require multiple treatments depending on the severity.

Safety

In rare cases, ablative laser resurfacing can cause various side effects, such as itching, swelling, turning of eyelid, redness and infection. It’s important to strictly follow pre- and post-treatment skin care to avoid serious side effects. In order to prevent a cold sore, we do prescribe acyclovir to start taking a couple days before the treatment and for 5 days after the treatment
