Enhance Your Look with Broadband Light Therapy in Beverly Hills

BroadBand Light Therapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses multiple wavelengths of light to gently reverse signs of aging and improve the skin’s texture and tone. This innovative anti-aging treatment delivers light energy deep into the skin to stimulate cell regeneration and collagen production.

Acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, sun damage, and uneven skin tone and texture can all be treated with this very customizable procedure. While particular forms of solar-based light energy (UVA, IRA, UVB) cause damage to the skin and promote signs of aging, the BroadBand device does the exact opposite. It employs photothermal energy — a highly effective light energy that targets and repairs damaged skin.

What is BroadBand Light Therapy?

BroadBand Light Therapy uses photothermal energy to penetrate the deep layers of skin and repair damaged tissues. BBL is a safe and effective solution to reverse signs of aging and damage in multiple areas of the face and body. Patients often seek BBL to reduce and treat skin conditions such as:

  • Sun Damage
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmentation
  • Acne
  • Acne Scars
  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles
  • Age Spots
  • Uneven Texture
  • Loose Skin
  • Redness & Inflammation

Although it produces similar effects to laser treatments, it is essential to note that this is not a laser treatment. Laser treatments often operate at a single wavelength, while BBL uses a broad light spectrum. This means that we can filter the light energy in several ways to treat various skin conditions.

The new and innovative technology behind the BBL device allows practitioners to provide quick and comfortable treatment for patients of nearly any skin tone with enduring results. The devices’ multi-pass approach possesses the capability to treat signs of aging on all levels of the skin. A single pass can rejuvenate and invigorate the skin, while multiple passes with varying light filters can deliver corrective results for acne, pigmentation, skin tightening, and much more.

How the Procedure Works

A single BroadBand Light Therapy treatment is quick and comfortable, taking 15-30 minutes to complete. BBL is a comprehensive solution to a wide range of skin conditions. Patients will experience improvements in skin texture, tone, elasticity, and signs of aging.

It is a non-invasive treatment; however, there are some steps and precautions to consider for attaining and maintaining the best possible outcomes.

Before & Preparation

  • You will attend a consultation where your chosen practitioner will evaluate your condition, discuss your treatment goals, and develop a treatment plan.
  • BBL therapy often requires a series of sessions for optimal results. A typical treatment plan consists of 2-4 treatments in 3-4 week intervals.
  • Use proper sun protection in the weeks before your treatment.
  • Avoid smoking for a minimum of six weeks before treatment.
  • Discontinue medications that may cause excess bleeding.
  • Discontinue antibiotics as advised by your provider.
  • Avoid skincare products and retinoids that cause skin sensitivity.
  • Arrive at your appointment with a clean face, free of makeup (for BBL therapy on the face and neck).
  • Before your procedure, you may apply sunscreens or moisturizers to the treatment area(s).
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water before and after your treatment.
  • You may take arnica supplements in the weeks before and after your procedure to prevent irritation and expedite the healing process.
  • You may apply the topical numbing cream Zensa before arriving at your appointment if you are highly sensitive to discomfort.

During the Procedure

  • Your practitioner will provide you with protective eyewear and apply a topical anesthetic and cooling gel to the treatment area(s) if necessary.
  • As the procedure progresses, you may see some light flashes and feel a warming sensation.
  • The procedure isn’t painful. However, you may experience slight discomfort in more sensitive areas.
  • Treatment time will vary based on the area and condition you want to address. On average, a single treatment can last between 5 and 30 minutes.
  • Your provider will glide the device over the treatment area(s) multiple times using the proper light filters to address your specific skin concerns.
  • The device will emit broad-spectrum photothermal energy into the skin.
  • The upper layers of the skin will absorb the heat and energy from the light, destroying pigmented skin cells and closing superficial blood vessels. The light energy penetrates the deeper skin layer, triggering a natural wound-healing response that generates the formation of new cells and boosts collagen production.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • You may experience some redness and swelling on and around the treatment area immediately following your BBL Therapy session. This effect is normal and will resolve within a day or two.
  • Patients may return to work, apply makeup, and continue their routine immediately after treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, or extreme heat exposure for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid topical acne skincare products, such as retinol and hyperpigmentation creams, for 2-5 days after treatment.
  • Avoid exfoliating skincare products, waxing, plucking, or use of depilatory products for 4-6 weeks after treatment.
  • Limit sun exposure and utilize proper sun protection in the weeks following your treatment.
  • It is best to avoid additional cosmetic procedures such as IPL, laser hair removal, facial and chemical exfoliation treatments, microdermabrasion, and injectable fillers or neurotoxin treatments for 4-6 weeks after treatment.
  • Adopt a gentle skincare routine to ensure optimal effects, including a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Your practitioner will recommend effective products to assist your concerns and expedite your recovery.
  • Review our bruising and laser care collection at The Skin Spot for more information about post-procedure skincare.

Dr Sheila Nazarian Plastic Surgeon

The longevity of a BBL treatment depends on a variety of different factors. Your cosmetic surgeon can discuss with you your goals for the treatment and general expectations. Most patients receive multiple and continuing treatments. Treatments are typically every three months.

Patients usually receive a recommendation to get BBL treatments more than once a year. These treatments are typically priced individually. One treatment may cost around $400 to $1,000. Some patients get treatments four times a year, while others only get two sessions per year.

The BBL treatment can provide individuals with many different benefits for their face. Conditions such as sun damage, liver spots, and wrinkles can all be treated with BBL. This is because the treatment is able to be used on all body areas.

BroadBand Light therapy works by firming skin and can be used on any part of the body. This means that wrinkles and fine lines can be treated with BBL. It is important to discuss goals and expectations with your cosmetic surgeon before beginning treatment.

The BBL device emits broad-spectrum light energy that penetrates deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production and cell regeneration. The result is a smoother complexion with improvements in signs of aging, pigmentation, and skin laxity.

BBL therapy is an exceptional non-invasive solution for individuals with concerns such as sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, acne, scars, and lax skin. The unique technology behind the BBL device is result-oriented, meaning that it can treat many skin concerns with minimal downtime and side effects.

Patients can expect to experience a sunburn-like sensation immediately after treatment. These effects will subside within a few hours to a few days. It is normal to experience redness and peeling in the days after treatment. Patients report a full recovery within 5-7 days.

BroadBand Light Therapy is not a one-time treatment. The number of sessions necessary to obtain optimal results varies depending on the treatment area(s) and skin condition. A standard treatment plan consists of 2-4 treatments in 3-4 week intervals. Practitioners often recommend yearly maintenance sessions to preserve results.

BroadBand Light Therapy does not induce enduring effects. A series of 1-2 treatments yields results that can last 3-4 months. Practitioners often recommend 2-4 sessions with yearly maintenance sessions to prolong and maintain optimal anti-aging effects.

BroadBand Light Therapy is highly effective for reversing pigmentation stimulated by sun damage, age, and rosacea. However, BBL may not be ideal for those concerned with melasma. Consult an experienced practitioner to determine if light therapy suits you.
