What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects drooping upper eyelids and sagging lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes the excess skin formed by aging skin losing its elasticity.

Types of Blepharoplasty Procedures Available

There are two blepharoplasty procedures:

  • Upper Blepharoplasty: Corrects eyelid ptosis, also called blepharoptosis. Practitioners remove drooping skin and tissue, giving the eye a younger look and potentially improving the patient’s field of vision.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty: Addresses under-eye bags by removing the excess skin and fat in the under-eye area. It also treats drooping lower eyelids. Fat repositioning and cheek lifts can remove dark circles around the under-eye area.

Eye Lift Cost & Pricing Structure

Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed facial cosmetic procedures in the United States. It involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to fix drooping or bulging fat around the eyes. Plastic surgeons highly recommend it, and many patients have excellent reviews following the procedure.

What Results to Expect:

  • Younger Look: Blepharoplasty procedures remove aging skin and tissue that has lost its elasticity. Droopy, sagging skin adds years to your face. Blepharoplasty procedures permanently address these signs of aging.
  • Reduced Bags: Lower blepharoplasty procedures focus on reducing or removing the baggy areas of skin under the eyes.
  • Improved Field of Vision: Droopy eyes can reduce the visual field. Fixing droopy eyes with blepharoplasty can improve the size of your visual field.
  • Minimal Scarring: There is minimal scarring following blepharoplasty procedures, as the incisions are hidden in the creases of the eyelids.
  • Long Lasting Results: Blepharoplasty procedures provide long-term results, with many patients enjoying them for ten years and beyond.
  • Smoother Forehead: Patients will require fewer forehead muscle contractions to raise and lower their eyelids after a blepharoplasty, causing deep wrinkles on the forehead. Blepharoplasty eliminates this extra weight on the eyelids and allows the forehead to relax.

How Long Will Results Last?

Blepharoplasty ‌usually produces long-lasting results. Upper and lower blepharoplasty results are reported to last seven years or more.

Los Angeles, CA“Dr. Nazarian is amazing. I was terrified of having any work done on my face - I guess I've watched too many episodes of "Botched." However, Dr. Nazarian put my fears completely to rest and I went confidently into surgery. I'm 65 - I've always looked younger than my age, but because of a large weight loss, I had baggy loose skin under my chin that instantly added 10 years to my age. My eyelids were loose and crepey, and my top lip vanished nearly every time I smiled. I had several procedures performed by Dr. Nazarian:

  1. A neck lift - which has removed that nasty baggy wattle. I still can't believe it's gone. Hurrah!
  2. An eye lift - both top and bottom lids, and my eyes look amazing. I had to re-learn how to put on my eye makeup, because I had gotten so used to dealing with my hooded eyes, and it's been wonderful to experiment and play with new and vibrant colors.
  3. She also did a mini lip lift, which means that now, I can smile without my top lip vanishing. Red lipstick, here I come!!”

Eye Lift Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. I am typically chatting with my patients about our lives as I refresh their eyes. The local anesthetic injections completely numb the area so you won’t feel a thing. And the nice thing about doing this procedure awake is that there is none of the grogginess that patients often feel with general anesthesia. It also makes the surgery faster. For patients who are anxious at the idea of being awake, we give them a little something before surgery to take the edge off. However, if I am combining eyelid surgery with another procedure such as a facelift that requires you to be asleep, I will perform both under general anesthesia.

The procedure itself is pain-free. You won’t feel anything thanks to the local anesthetic. After surgery, you may experience some discomfort. The extent is going to depend on what exactly you have done as well as your individual pain tolerance. Honestly, most patients find this recovery to be comfortable. They don’t even take narcotics. We are happy to prescribe pain medications, but, typically, icing is enough.

Without assessing you in-person or at least seeing a photo, it is impossible to say. Fillers can help to improve that hollow look beneath the eye and/or camouflage or smooth the transition between your lower eyelid and your cheek. My best advice would be for you to schedule a consultation to be assessed in-person. Your eyes are such a vital part of your personality that you want to make certain that you are choosing the right procedure for your needs

We’ve all seen pictures of celebrities who no longer look like themselves after eyelid surgery. Although I believe that plastic surgery is a personal choice, my goal is never to change the look or shape of your eyes. They will simply look more lifted, bright and youthful. My best advice for ensuring a natural looking outcome is to see a surgeon whose aesthetic matches your own so check out his or her before-and-after photos.

Yes, at Nazarian Plastic Surgery and Spa26 we offer financing through third party providers, Care Credit and LendingUSA, both which offer our patients 0% interest for up to 6 months!

Lower eyelid surgery can last a lifetime, while upper eyelid surgery can reduce in effect over the years. Upper eyelid surgery typically lasts 5 to 10 years.

If the reason for the procedure is age-related, patients between 40 and 50 years of age will see the best results. Any healthy adult who seeks to remedy sagging or droopy lids can benefit.

People with underlying health issues like diabetes, heart problems, hypertension, and dry eye should discuss with their practitioner if blepharoplasty is right for them. Patients over 60 may have increased risks of complications and less dramatic results.

Post-procedure swelling and healing can make it difficult to see your results immediately. Your eyes will retain the same shape and structure while reducing the signs of aging caused by the sagging and droopy eyelid skin.

Practitioners will ensure the patient’s comfort by using local or general anesthesia. Blepharoplasty procedures shouldn’t involve any procedural pain. Post-procedure discomfort and swelling are common.

Blepharoplasty incisions are hidden within the natural eyelid crease, so patients shouldn’t need to hide scars. You can alleviate post-procedure swelling and redness with ice packs and over-the-counter medications. Cosmetic concealers help reduce redness or discoloration.
