What to expect
The miraDry® system reduces the underarm sweat glands permanently, resulting in a dramatic and lasting reduction of underarm sweat. Sweat glands don’t grow back after treatment. Clinical study has revealed that patients experienced an average of 82% reduction in underarm sweat. Immediately after initial treatment with miraDry® with Dr. Nazarian or our PA, you should notice a reduction in sweat. Every patient is different so results will vary by person. Secondary positive effects include underarm hair and odor reduction.
After one treatment, sweat and odor glands are about 80% eliminated. This is typically enough to never have to worry about wearing deodorant again. However, a second treatment can be given in two months if needed.

miraDry® Technique
The miraDry® system permanently reduces the underarm sweat glands, and the sweat glands don’t grow back after treatment. These glands contain water, and miraDry® will only directly attack water. This means no nerves or lymph nodes will be harmed during your procedure. The treatment takes about an hour, and you will be able to resume a normal routine.
miraDry® Prep, Recovery & Safety
Day of the procedure
We need full access to your underarm area, so we will ask you to remove your shirt and women will need to remove their bra. A drape will be given to cover you up. In a reclined position with your arms over your head, numbing medication will be administered. You may feel a stinging sensation with the first injection of numbing medication. After that, you should not have any discomfort throughout your procedure. Once you are numbed, tattoo treatment guides will be placed. These guides are similar to a temporary tattoo and will wash off after your procedure. The miraDry® applicator will be applied over the treatment guide. The applicator looks like a suction cup and delivers microwave energy to eliminate underarm sweat and odor glands.

Not in your armpits! You are born with approximately 2 million sweat glands throughout your body. Your underarms only contain about 2% of those glands. With miraDry® you will experience the many benefits of stopping sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat elsewhere.
Most patients describe the procedure as painless with little downtime. Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the treatment to assist in increasing comfort. Some patients describe the initial anesthetic injections as the most painful part of the procedure. There are no incisions or cuts. Treatment is customized to each underarm with multiple placements of the miraDry® handpiece. An office visit appointment will generally last about one hour
miraDry® uses proprietary mira. Wave technology is the ideal wavelength for reducing sweat and odor glands in the underarm. It non-surgically targets the area where the sweat glands reside and safely destroys them while simultaneously cooling your skin for added comfort.

Since local anesthesia is administered to the underarm prior to treatment, most patients experience little to no pain. Patients rated treatment pain on an average score of 2 on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = no pain, 10= worst pain).
Most patients experience minimal downtime and return to regular activity (like returning to work) immediately. Exercise is typically resumed within several days. You may experience swelling, numbness, bruising, and sensitivity in the underarm area for several days post-treatment.
miraDry® treatment has a strong safety record. Some localized soreness or swelling will occur and typically clears within a few weeks.
