How the Procedure Works
Trained and experienced healthcare professionals in dermal filler injections offer Restylane Silk treatments. Restylane Silk contains a pain-numbing lidocaine anesthetic, which minimizes patient discomfort. Although this treatment is non-surgical and has a brief recovery period, the patient must know what to expect before, during, and after the procedure to ensure a comfortable process from start to finish.
Before & Preparation
- Schedule your consultation with Dr. Sheila Nazarian to discuss medical history, payment, costs, and desired results.
- On the day of the procedure, what you eat or don't eat depends on if your surgery is conducted while you are awake or asleep. You can have a nutritious breakfast for awake cases and not stop eating. Patients undergoing general anesthesia must refrain from eating or drinking anything after midnight before the procedure unless otherwise specifically directed by your anesthesiologist.
- If you tend to be sensitive to pain or needles, you can use a numbing product like Zensa 30 minutes before your treatment time.
- If required, our provider can offer an additional topical anesthetic to reduce pain during your procedure.
- Other products that can reduce downtime are our compounded Arnica, Bromelain, and Vitamin K capsules, Ocumend patches, and Inhance Post-Injection Serum.
- Do not drink alcohol or caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
- Discontinue blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, and Ibuprofen as these increase your chance of bruising and bleeding.
- Avoid bleaching, waxing, tweezing, and other hair removal methods for at least two days before your treatment.
- Schedule your treatment at least three weeks before an event to allow time for healing.
- Reduce sodium intake to minimize swelling.
During the Procedure
- A topical anesthetic may be applied to ensure comfort throughout the treatment.
- Your practitioner may mark your skin where they plan to do the injections.
- Treatments are non-invasive and easily performed in an office setting. A fine needle is used to deliver the treatment to the areas where deep lines and wrinkles occur.
- Additional injections will continue until desired results are achieved.
- There, the filler works like a sponge within the skin, absorbing water and giving you a more youthful appearance.

Aftercare & Recovery
- Use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
- Avoid exposure to intense heat or cold.

- You may experience lump formation, bruising, swelling, redness, pain, or headache. These side effects typically subside within seven days.

You can expect to see the final results of your Restylane Silk treatment four to six weeks post-treatment. Two weeks after your injections, the filler will begin to settle into the hollows of your skin, and at four to six weeks, your body will kickstart the collagen production process, restoring volume in the facial skin.
After Restylane injections, you should avoid heat, strenuous activity, alcohol consumption, certain skincare treatments, and blood-thinning medications.
Sometimes, light massage on the lumps is recommended after the 3rd day but before the 7th-day post-treatment. You may do this several times a day until it smooths out.
Sleep on your back with your head elevated with one or two pillows. Doing so will ensure that your new injections stay in place and settle correctly.
Avoid touching your face for at least 6 hours post-treatment. After 6 hours, you can lightly wash your face with a gentle cleanser.
A cold compress can help reduce swelling and pain after injections. Your practitioner will review post-treatment aftercare to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery.
