    Eye Lift Technique

Eye Lift is an outpatient procedure typically performed under local anesthesia. Excess fat and skin are removed through a small incision made in the natural crease on the upper eyelids and below the lower eyelids’ lash lines. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, wherein incisions are made inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar. This procedure can last anywhere between one to two hours. Dr. Nazarian will place incisions in your natural creases to hide them. She will then remove the excess skin and fat, if necessary, of the eyelids. Dr. Sheila Nazarian has a philosophy of conservative and natural-looking surgeries so just the right amount will be taken out to prevent a fake or over-done look.

Eye Lift Prep, Recovery & Safety

    Day of the procedure

Typically, this procedure is done under local anesthesia, meaning you are awake, but may also be performed with general anesthesia, meaning you are asleep. The procedure is done in 1-2 hours and you can go home afterwards. It is extremely important that you tell the doctor any medical problems you have and any medication you are or have been taking, including herbal medications.

    Recovery

Recovery after eye lift procedure is relatively pain-free and quick for most patients. Patients can go back to usual activities within 3-5 days after surgery. It is advised to avoid high-impact exercise and strenuous activities for several weeks after surgery to allow complete healing. Dr. Nazarian will provide thorough and individualized recovery instructions at the time of your consultation.

    Dr Sheila Nazarian Plastic Surgeon

Yes. I am typically chatting with my patients about our lives as I refresh their eyes. The local anesthetic injections completely numb the area so you won’t feel a thing. And the nice thing about doing this procedure awake is that there is none of the grogginess that patients often feel with general anesthesia. It also makes the surgery faster. For patients who are anxious at the idea of being awake, we give them a little something before surgery to take the edge off. However, if I am combining eyelid surgery with another procedure such as a facelift that requires you to be asleep, I will perform both under general anesthesia.

The procedure itself is pain-free. You won’t feel anything thanks to the local anesthetic. After surgery, you may experience some discomfort. The extent is going to depend on what exactly you have done as well as your individual pain tolerance. Honestly, most patients find this recovery to be comfortable. They don’t even take narcotics. We are happy to prescribe pain medications, but, typically, icing is enough.

Without assessing you in-person or at least seeing a photo, it is impossible to say. Fillers can help to improve that hollow look beneath the eye and/or camouflage or smooth the transition between your lower eyelid and your cheek. My best advice would be for you to schedule a consultation to be assessed in-person. Your eyes are such a vital part of your personality that you want to make certain that you are choosing the right procedure for your needs

We’ve all seen pictures of celebrities who no longer look like themselves after eyelid surgery. Although I believe that plastic surgery is a personal choice, my goal is never to change the look or shape of your eyes. They will simply look more lifted, bright and youthful. My best advice for ensuring a natural looking outcome is to see a surgeon whose aesthetic matches your own so check out his or her before-and-after photos.
