Optimize your Lips with a Lip Implant in Beverly Hills

What to Expect

Lip Implantation is a completely safe and quick procedure that involves minimally invasive injections. After a consultation appointment with Dr. Nazarian where you’ll work together to determine a plan of action for your goals, the actual application of the lip augmentation material involves the injection of a tiny needle into certain areas of the lips based on the patient’s appearance targets.

Before the lip augmentation process begins, the injection area will be completely sterilized to ensure a safe procedure. You shouldn’t feel anything worse than a slight pinch as the small needle is used to inject minimal amounts of filler material into your lips. Altogether, the lip injection process typically doesn’t take more than 30 minutes per session.

The most common side effects that most lip augmentation recipients experience are slight bruising and swelling in the lip area, especially within a few days after the procedure. Once the first few days post-procedure have passed, any swelling and bruising you’re noticing in the area should mostly subside, leaving the more voluminous and full lip appearance that you planned for before your procedure with Dr. Nazarian.

The results of a lip augmentation procedure are semi-permanent, which means the effects of your initial treatment should last between 6 and 12 months. Results will vary based on the type of filler used, the augmentation method, and your medical history.

Generally, fillers in the lip area tend to dissolve slightly faster than augmentation materials in other areas of the body due to the constant movement of the lips and the heavy blood supply to the area. In order to maintain the results of your lip augmentation procedure, you should expect to come back in for follow-up injection appointments approximately every six months after your initial procedure.

What is a Lip Implant?

Nazarian Plastic Surgery is proud to provide a wide range of effective surgical and non-surgical treatments that can help you boost your confidence and achieve your cosmetic goals. One of our most popular and commonly requested treatments is our lip Implantation procedure.

Lip augmentation is the process of boosting lip volume and appearance using the injection of synthetic material into the lips. Though many potential candidates for lip fillers simply desire fuller and more voluminous lips, this procedure can also be a great way to correct uneven lip appearance, reduce the appearance of age-related wrinkles around the mouth, and even slightly lift the corners of the mouth to reduce frown lines.

Generally, the materials used for a lip augmentation or implant surgery include hyaluronic acid, silicone, or fat from elsewhere on the patient’s body. The material used will often make a difference in specific lip appearance post-procedure. It will also influence how long the effects of the procedure last. Your doctor will determine which material is best on a case-by-case basis for each patient’s specific appearance-based desires as well as their medical needs and limitations.

Lip Augmentation Technique

The lip augmentation procedure is quick, simple, and minimally invasive.

Types of Procedures

Most lip augmentation strategies use the same process if they involve injection by a needle. Once the lips have been sterilized and prepped for the injections, you’ll feel a minor pinch as the tiny needle is injected into the proper spots to provide the results you’re looking for. Most plastic surgeons will not inject more than 1mL of filler during a single session to prevent excessive swelling or lump formation.

Since the lip augmentation process is minimally invasive, you won’t need any drains post-procedure, and the only side effects you should expect are some slight swelling and bruising in the lip area. This procedure is performed while the patient is awake, and patients are generally safe to drive themselves home immediately after the procedure.

If you tend to be sensitive to pain, you can ask your surgeon for an anesthetic before your procedure begins. Generally, this will come in a topical cream that reduces sensation in the area, making the procedure more comfortable. Additionally, your surgeon will gently massage the augmentation materials into your lips after injection to make sure they’re properly distributed and to prevent lumps from forming.

Lip Implant Prep, Recovery & Safety

Preparation

Most plastic surgeons advise patients to avoid smoking and blood-thinning drugs for several weeks pre-surgery. Patients should also stay hydrated regularly to promote optimal healing.

Day of the procedure

On the day of your lip augmentation appointment, make sure to eat nutritious meals and drink plenty of water to make sure you’re feeling your best.

Recovery

Since lip Implants are a minimally invasive procedure, you won’t have to return to your surgeon’s office for suture or drain removal. Make sure to regularly apply a cold compress to the lip area to reduce bruising and swelling in the next few days following your procedure. Watch carefully for more dramatic side effects, such as bleeding or extreme bruising. Downtime required for this procedure is minimal, and you can generally return to normal activities the same day or the day after.

Safety

The minimally invasive nature of lip augmentation means that you won’t have to worry about any medical garments or accessories to recover successfully. This procedure is considered highly safe and largely risk-free. Contact your surgeon in the event of any abnormal side effects, and make sure to increase your protein intake over several days following your procedure to speed up the recovery process.

Similar or Related Procedures

We understand that minimally invasive natural beauty enhancement procedures like lip augmentation aren’t for everyone. Many women who desire to change the structure and volume of their lips consider alternative options such as Hyaluron Pens.

These non-FDA-approved tools administer small spurts of hyaluronic acid into the skin through sheer force of pressure, providing an option that isn’t invasive in any way but doesn’t work as accurately or last as long as a lip injection of the same substance. Though Hyaluron Pens are a cheaper option when compared to a lip filler procedure, they can also produce very mixed results.

Many beauty brands such as Too Faced and SkinMedica also offer lip plumping products that can create the appearance of boosted volume for short periods of time after application. However, these products are short-term solutions and won’t make any structural changes to your lips over time. That’s why we recommend a safe and effective lip augmentation treatment from Nazarian Plastic Surgery to create long-lasting results that will boost your confidence and help you feel great in your skin.

Am I a Good Lip Implant Candidate?

Ideal Lip Augmentation Candidate

Lip Implants are safe and FDA-cleared for adults of all ages. Generally, there are no weight or lifestyle restrictions for potential lip augmentation candidates. However, good health overall is always a plus and tends to make the implantation and recovery process smoother for recipients.

If you have any concerns about the effects of a lip augmentation procedure on your health based on past or current health issues, make sure to ask any questions you might have during your initial consultation with Dr. Nazarian. Keeping your detailed medical history in mind, the doctor will be able to determine whether lip fillers are safe for you and what the best plan of action might be to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Lip Augmentation cost can vary based on the location of your provider, their experience level, the type of filler chosen, and specific patient needs. This price can vary from $500 to $1000, with an average of around $600.

Lip fillers, like Juvéderm or Restylane, are only semi-permanent. These fillers may last up to 12 months. Results vary among filler types and augmentation methods. Lip filler does tend to dissolve faster than other facial areas because of the vast blood supply to the lips and more movement.

As with anything, excessive use of lip fillers may cause some issues. Getting lip fillers too frequently may result in an overstretching of the lip, which can lead to increased or exacerbated wrinkling of the upper lip over time

After getting lip fillers, your smile will be altered as your lips will have a more voluminous look. This procedure may be combined with a neurotoxin to help fix your smile if you feel it is “too toothy”. For a fuller smile, inquire about injection sites, such as fine lines and the parentheses lines around the side of the mouth.

One syringe contains 1.0 cc of filler which can be applied to one region of the lip. Typically, one syringe is enough, and multiple treatments may be recommended. More than two syringes are not administered at a time.

Directly following treatment, your lips may be a bit sore, and some localized swelling may develop. This swelling should disappear within a day or two. If it’s your first time, you may experience some slight pain from the swelling, but subsequent treatments will allow you to build a tolerance to the minor discomfort.
