Optimize your Looks with a Chemical Peel in Beverly Hills

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that removes the outermost damaged layers of cells for profound exfoliation benefits. Specially formulated chemical solutions transform dull, lifeless skin to reveal a youthful and radiant appearance. Peels may also stimulate collagen production, leading to naturally long-lasting results.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Sheila Nazarian, MD, MMM, and her team of skin experts provide patients with the highest level of care and superior outcomes. We often recommend combining chemical peels with other aesthetic treatments like dermal fillers and neuromodulators to enhance results.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels stimulate the skin’s healing processes. As the skin repairs at a cellular level, patients will experience a reversal in signs of aging, refinement in skin texture and tone, and improvement of various skin conditions. The solution is applied topically and left on the skin for a prescribed time.

The solution is applied topically and left on the skin for a prescribed time. The chemical peel separates the outermost dermal layers, stimulating cell regeneration beneath the surface. Treatments can reduce minor skin imperfections for a more radiant appearance. The depth of the peel determines how dramatic your improvement will be. According to that, you can choose between:

  • Light Peels offer superficial brightening without significant side effects or downtime.
  • Medium Peels address mild-to-moderate skin concerns with up to a week of flaking and peeling.
  • Deep Peels provide dramatic, long-lasting improvement with up to two weeks of recovery.

Chemical Peel Treatment Options

At Nazarian Plastic Surgery, we offer three specific peel treatments:

  • Purity Peel: This medium complexion peel clears breakouts and discoloration associated with acne. The peel formula features skin-clearing boosters of benzoyl peroxide, kojic acid, and hydrocortisone.
  • Pure Peel Plus: A transformative medium peel that combats the signs of aging and discoloration, including melasma. Boosters of hydroquinone and kojic acid produce a more even skin tone. Patients may combine the Purity Peel and the Pure Peel Plus with dermal fillers and neuromodulators to enhance results.
  • PowerPeel: The PowerPeel is considered the grand slam of all medical-grade peels and does not require any anesthesia. It prevents and eliminates discoloration, such as post-inflammatory pigmentation, freckles, age spots, and melasma. The PowerPeel combats the signs of aging, acne, scars, spots, fine lines, and wrinkles while restoring luminosity and hydration. These peels can enhance overall skin health. Active ingredients include hydroquinone 8%, retinoic acid, azelaic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, phytic acid, and ascorbic acid.

How the Procedure Works

In most cases, our practitioners perform our chemical peels in less than one hour. Patients can often return to regular activities the same day or the day after when it comes to light to medium grade level peels. Social downtime varies based on the strength of the peel. Patients usually find these treatments very tolerable without anesthesia. We provide instructions on caring for your skin before and after treatment to reduce risk and ensure the best possible outcome.

Before & Preparation

  • Take an antiviral medication if your practitioner prescribes one for you.
  • Avoid sun exposure that could damage the skin before your treatment.
  • Avoid hair removal techniques such as depilatories or electrolysis the week before, during, and after your peel.
  • Avoid hair treatments such as coloring or straightening for about one week or until the peeling process has been completed.
  • Your provider will instruct you on the proper usage of topical products, such as retinoid creams or bleaching agents, before and after treatment.

During the Procedure

  • Your provider will cleanse the skin and cover the eyes before treatment begins.
  • Your provider will apply the chemical solution or products using a brush, cotton swab, or spatula.
  • Some patients report mild stinging or tingling during treatment.
  • The formulation is left in the treatment area for a prescribed time for the deeper peels.
  • The chemical solution is then neutralized or washed off the skin for light to medium-grade peels.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • You will be able to drive yourself home after treatment.
  • Your skin may be red, tender, and slightly swollen, similar to a sunburn.
  • You can resume most regular activities right away(for light to medium grade level peels)
  • The skin will be highly vulnerable to sun damage; apply sunscreen regularly.
  • Flaking and peeling begin approximately 48 hours after the application and typically last 7-14 days.
  • Your provider will advise you on the proper post-peel kit/products to use during the healing process to ensure optimal results.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Patients of all ages use chemical peels to maintain optimal skin health, treat a host of skin imperfections, and address damage and aging symptoms. The best candidates for a chemical peel:

  • Have sun damage, signs of aging, or hyperpigmentation
  • Seek improvement of skin texture and tone
  • Desire to minimize the appearance of acne scarring or other skin imperfections
  • Have mild to moderate active acne or an untreated skin condition.
  • Seek a refreshed appearance and enhanced cellular regeneration.

You may not be a candidate for a chemical peel if you are prone to some types of scarring. We do not recommend chemical peels for patients taking certain acne medicines or other medications that make the skin more susceptible to damage over the past year.

  • Erbium Laser : The Erbium laser offers the most powerful skin resurfacing option. This device removes the outermost skin layers while stimulating collagen production for smoother, firmer, more youthful skin.

Chemical Peel Reviews

I've had great experiences with Dr. Nazarian. About 2 years ago, she recommended a TCA chemical peel and I got tremendous results. I recently had Botox and fillers and look amazing. I also recommend the skincare line that she sells in her office (I've tried them all). I totally trust her and will be back!!!

I know first-hand how crazy your skin can get during pregnancy. It is incredibly frustrating. But it’s best to wait until you are done breastfeeding before getting a chemical peel. Instead, we recommend pregnancy facials in our practice as well as a regime of pregnancy-safe, medical-grade skincare products that we have personally vetted on www.theskinspot.com.

Can I still get a peel or should I wait? If you are heading to the beach or any place where you will be out in the sun, wait until you get home before scheduling your chemical peel. The whole goal of a peel is to re-new your skin. But this new skin is also like a baby’s so you want to keep it out of the sun.

It is going to depend on the level of chemical peel that you get and we have all levels and kinds of peels here in the office. For a mild peel, I would give yourself 5-7 days. But for a really deep peel, you are going to want to give yourself a few weeks at least.

Your skin is going to be sensitive after your chemical peel so we will recommend a gentle skincare routine. The specific one is going to depend on the intensity of the peel that you choose. And we will definitely discuss which skincare products you should use afterwards to maintain your fabulous results. We carry a bunch of great options at www.theskinspot.com.

A chemical peel is a safe and effective skin resurfacing treatment when performed correctly. Removal of the outermost skin layers promotes healing and collagen production, increasing the health and appearance of the skin overall.

The duration of the peel depends on the depth. On average, light peels last 2-4 weeks, medium peels last 8-12 weeks, and results from deep peels can prevail for 6-18 months. Regardless of peel strength, results will become more prolonged if peels are received regularly.

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that removes the outermost layers of dermal tissue. It produces smoother, more youthful skin below. This treatment also prompts the body to produce more collagen for natural improvement at a cellular level.

Recovery depends on the depth of the peel. Patients who undergo a medium peel may see side effects for up to one week. Side effects include redness, mild swelling, and tenderness in the treatment area. Deeper peels can take about two weeks before similar side effects subside.

Most patients will see noticeable improvement after a single Pure Peel or Purity Plus Peel treatment. Patients may need more than one treatment to achieve satisfying results. A Power Peel always produces full results after a single session.

It depends on what you hope to achieve. Microdermabrasion uses a tool to remove dead, dry skin cells and debris from the skin’s surface with no downtime. A chemical peel penetrates deeper into the dermal tissue to remove more layers and produce a more dramatic result with minimal downtime.
